Educator Opportunities to Support New Assessments

This section provides information about the various opportunities for California educators to participate in activities for the California Alternate Assessments (CAAs) for English language arts (ELA), mathematics, and science, California Science Test (CAST), and California Spanish Assessment (CSA). Information will be updated throughout the coming months.

To support the development of the CAAs, CAST, and CSA, the California Department of Education (CDE) and its contractor, Educational Testing Service (ETS), are offering several opportunities during the 2020–2021 school year for California educators.

ETS, in partnership with the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE), will convene and assist with a series of opportunities related to assessment development.

Application Instructions

Applicants will be asked to create an account in the Educator Opportunities Portal. If they already have created an account, they can go directly to the Educator Opportunities Portal. Information will be submitted to the CDE for review and approval. If you are selected, you will be given more information about the meeting, including travel arrangements.

Qualifications

ETS is seeking applications from current and retired California educators who have experience and expertise in instruction related to English language arts, mathematics, science, Spanish language arts, and special education. Educators working with grades kindergarten through grade twelve and university educators are encouraged to apply.

Participants must be able to attend each meeting they are applying for in its entirety. Meetings typically run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The general minimum qualifications are:

  • Bachelor's degree, and
  • knowledge and experience in the appropriate content and student population.

ETS Scoring Job Opportunities

ETS is now accepting early applications for the 2020 scoring session. California educators looking to participate in the scoring of CAASPP as a constructed-response scoring professional (rater) can view more information on this recruitment flyer. This is an excellent opportunity for educators to become more familiar with the new generation of California assessments. Raters will score exams from their home or office using ETS’s Online Network for Evaluation (ONE) system, will work under the supervision of an assigned Scoring Leader, and will be required to successfully pass a certification exam prior to scoring. Scoring schedules are flexible and can include 4-, 6- and 8-hour weekday and/or weekend shifts.

Application Instructions and Qualifications

California educators interested in applying can view more information at Online Scoring for ELA and Mathematics Job Posting and the Online Scoring for CAST Job Posting. Educators who meet the following criteria listed are eligible to be raters:

  • Bachelor's degree in any field
  • California educators with a current California teaching credential or employment verification from a California school
  • Charter school teachers who may or may not have a teaching credential
  • Retired educators and other administrative staff with a teaching credential who are currently not classroom teachers
